You’ll probably want your flying mount as soon as you hit 70 anyway, but for getherers, the perks are more potent than just being able to reach previously unreachable spots. The flying mount allows you to cruise above the mobs, not drawing aggro (well, unless you get too low), looking for those yellow dots on your minimap. Hover above the spot to make sure there’s no level 72 Elite pathing by, drop down, maybe kill one mob, gather the herb/ore, mount up and fly outta there! More importantly, there are sections of the maps that can only be reached by flying mounts. They are farmed less frequently (for now). AND, Mana Thistle ONLY grows in those sections, so if you’re an Herbalist, you can be one of the few to gather those. When you get your flying mount, check the maps of each zone and look for the sections that couldn’t be uncovered (surrounded by mountains, etc.), and go explore them. It also allows you to get out of aggro range in most spots fairly quickly. Frequently if I’m working from home I’ll park my mount above Socethar’s Seat in Netherstorm. I just look at the minimap everyonce in a while to see if anything spawns…maybe do a quick circle of the island. There’s no danger ‘parking’ in the air there.

In addition to access to difficult and rare spawnpoints, a flying mount allows you to travel in straight lines from known spawn point to spawn point. See the Professions category for information about an addon that plots the shortest direct route to inspect all spawn points.

About Make WoW Gold

MakeWoWGold.com was created in February, 2006, at the urging of some friends who knew we were good at making gold. It became a game within the game, to see how much gold we could make, and what deals we could find. Once this site was created, other friends started contributing ideas. We finally converted it to a blog in December 2007 to make it easier to update. We would have done it sooner, but we were too busy playing WoW...
