NOTE: Updated for 3.0 and beyond!
How would you like an addon that:
1. Put EVERY known spawn point of every type of ore/herb on your map? (not just ones you’ve gathered)
2. Put a tiny ore/herb indicator on your minimap which showed what type of ore/herb it is?
3. Had the minimap indicator turn into an empty circle when you’re close enough to see if there’s a spawn there or not?
AND
4. Drew a route on your map and minimap that most efficiently took you to visit every spawn point?
Welcome to Routes!
Move over ‘Gatherer Addon’….there’s a new mod which will do more than replace Gatherer. It reduces the time it takes to find ore/herbs.
Here’s what to do:
1. Go to curse.com and get the ‘Curse Client’
2. Once you’ve installed it, you can choose which addons you want. Choose and install:
* GatherMate
* GatherMate_Data
* Routes – NOTE: NOT ‘Cartographer Routes’…that is old. There’s a new one called just ‘Routes’.
3. Once in the game, with the addons installed (you’ll have to load out-of-date addons for the Herbalism and Mining to show up), type /routes.
4. You can add a new Route for each zone. Basically, stick with the default settings, checking on all of the spawn points (herbs and ore) you want plotted. This will create a really ugly non-functional route.
5. Once the route is created, find it in your list of routes on the left, and modify it.
6. Under the Optimize tab, you’ll see an option to CLUSTER. Absolutely do that. Basically what that does is combines spawnpoints into one ‘point’ if they are within 60 yards (by default). That creates many fewer points to route out, and 80 yards is the distance for detecting the presence of an herb or ore.
7. Then click either Foreground (my preference) or Background and it will create a single route.
8. If you have the route enabled it creates a white line path around the map. If you fly that route, it will take you the shortest route possible within detection range of each spawn point you chose to display. On your minimap, spawnpoints out of range will display with a small icon representing the type of spawn it is (adamantite ore, felweed, etc.). Once within range, that mini icon will turn into an empty red or green circle (red for ore, green for herbs). If the circle is empty, there’s no spawn…else it will have the normal yellow dot in it.
TA-DA! You should have the most efficient (shortest) route that will circuit the map and hit every spawn point along the way!
Now you can just fly along this route (you don’t have to stick exactly to it), and you will fly over every point on a given zone.
The other thing you can do is create shorter routes based on fewer spawn points. Don’t choose EVERY type of data, but instead choose just one, such as Titanium. Let the route be built on Titanium only. Maybe you’re only interested in Titanium because it sells better on your server than other ore. You can shorten your route a bit…and you can still see other ore if you happen to fly over it. You just won’t go out of your way to check a single spawn point.
Here’s a video I made of me setting it up. I’ve gotten as much as 600g in 30 minutes using this route, and I consistenly get 500g in 30 minutes.

Make sure you’ve added the Cartographer Data (which has all the waypoints), and there is also a setting to turn on or off the display of the nodes.

i ve looked at wowace for the addons but i couldnt find cartographer_data or cartographer_mining. so how the whole thing is suppose to work without data??? or pls send me the link where i can find cartographer_data+cartographer_mining.

pls i have just one question,
i had a look at wowace but i couldnt find cartographer_data and cartographer_mining anywhere???
all the otehr ones were there but how this will work without the data? if im just to stupid to find it can u pls tell us the link that would be awesom.

Hey I’ve had this addon for ages it owns. But when patch 2.4 came out…about a month later the addon just stopped working, it had all the lines and routes there, but didn’t show the nodes. And when I tried to “add” a new route it said “No herblism/mining/fishing data found”. I’m gonna reinstall it, but in the mean time any one got any ideas on how to fix it? thx

I just had to say this is the single best way to make money I know about. I was on a break from WoW from before the Burning Crusade went live all the way into february 2008 so things like flying mounts were new for me when I started playing again. This guide actually inspired me to go straight for my epic flying once I hit 70 so I could use this method. Lol, I didn’t even train any proffesions or anything, just went to grind motes to get my 5000g. Had it within little over a week of being level 70. I figured it would be better to get a strong income early instead of using the 50-100g/h methods around and that I would be making twice the money using this method once I had grinded up to
And holy crap, does it add up. I never really realised how much gold I spend on things on a daily basis. Leveling professions, raiding, repairs. The 5000g I spent on epic flying really just feels like a lot because you spend it all on one thing but in reality you spend that much almost weekly when you’re active. Even on a bad day with lousy AH prices I almost never get below 200g/h.

Hey, I have been trying to get this working but for some reason it doesnt work. I can’t find Cartographer Mining or Herbalism in the curse client. It repeatedly says I have no data for the nodes to go on the map. Is there any alternative sources?

Hmmm. If I open curse client and do ‘Find Addon’ tab, and search ‘Mining’, Cartographer_mining appears. Same thing with Herbalism.
If you install those, though, you have to go to your Addon button at your Character Selection screen when you login and check ‘load out-of-date addons’. The herbalism and mining addons will be grayed out, otherwise, and Routes can’t see the waypoints.

Wow! I have no idea what i just did but it got it working. I still couldn’t find it from the curse client but I went back to Ace and dowloaded something and it got it working. But besides thanks so much!

I have gone to curse and i cant find the add ons u are talkig about. I downloades routes and cartographer but cant find the othrts. And i have no clue how to download from wow ace. any help?

How many nodes are in your route? I can’t even make it all the way around Icecrown one time in 30 minutes on an epic flyer, so since you made it around twice, I’m thinking your route must have only a few waypoints.

I cant this thing to work at all! I have all the addons installed but i get no data from any of them. Do i have to go out and find the nodes before i can route them…..i dont get it. Please could someone email me or reply to this post. thanks alot

Its amazing how they did this…Thanks to everyone for this add-on. Also if anyone is having problems with the no data issue make sure you download the three add-ons.

Install into your Warcraft folder “Interface/Addons”"
Make sure your addons folder is showing and install into there.(i know, simple, right? Well some people can not grab the concept)
IN the game before you “enter world” click the add ons button on the bottom left corner. Make sure they are there and checked off. LIke the other guy said also check off “Install out of date addons”
Once in the game, If you already know about /routes and creating a route then goto your game menu, click interface and then click add-ons. Click gather_mate and then import the data needed, mine was herb and fishing and then go back to the routes screen and presto!!!
Very important to load the DATA from gather mate to create the route and look for mining, herb, etc.
