Professions

Two Gathering

This is the single best tip I can give you regarding professions! If you are serious about getting gold, you should take up two gathering professions. Other professions require you to consume mats. Having two gathering professions allows you to focus on collecting to sell, not leveling up your existing profession. Choose skinning and either Herbalism or Mining. The reason most folks don’t do an Herb/Mining combo is that you can only track one thing on the minimap at a time. Become a skinner. I’m not kidding. Half the things you can kill are skinnable. It’s like looting them twice. And you have the added advantage of the fact that you can skin other people’s kills. Many times I have followed a group that is grinding out some skinnable mob for a quest, and done nothing but pick up the leather. Check out the leather prices on your server. Frankly, I think Herbalism is more profitable than Mining, based on what the herbs sell for. And it will save you one more slot in your bag. I don’t want to take up the space to argue why you should have these as your professions if you want gold. If you think about it, with the exception of a very few Bind on Pickup items that are crafted, anything that you could MAKE with a profession, you can buy from someone else. But having the gold gives you the choice of buying those things AND other things…having the profession means you won’t have enough gold to buy anything you can’t make, and getting the skill, the recipes and the mats to make it….just won’t save you anything. This guide is about earning WoW gold, and two gathering professions is the best way. (Incidentally, I do mention some ways to make gold with other professions, but they’re not as good as gathering.) Also, please see the section on the Gatherer addon if you have either Mining or Herbalism.
